Off-piste Perfection - La Grave and Engelberg
A pure off piste week with a blend of instruction and exciting descents designed to help you perfect your technique. As popular as ever and now offered at two world class destinations.
La Grave - We are strategically based in Bourg D'Oisans, which gives us access to the lift systems of La Grave, Les Deux Alpes and L'Alpe D'Huez. We will also use skins on several days, so you will need skis with touring bindings. The course will stay at Eric and Pauline's lovely Chambre de Hôte, a family run gîte that is a delight to return to each day. The log stove is most welcome at the end of a long day's skiing and Pauline's excellent meals set us up for the next day's adventures. So that we can ski a wide variety of terrain, BASI instructor, Simon Christy will be accompanied by an IFMGA Guide.
Engelberg - Less than two hours by train from Zurich, Engelberg is very easy to reach and has some great off piste ski runs, including the famous Laub (1,100m) and the Galtiberg (2,000m), which descend the north face of Titlis (3,238m). It's the place that Swiss off piste skiers head to for some searing off piste lines that cut through steep and imposing terrain. The town itself has a small, village feel to it and the locals are really friendly. There are some lovely little shops, great bakeries and plenty of ski shops too. Above the village the mountains are riven with glaciers and cliffs. This is not a mass tourist destination - the lift-accessed ski area is actually quite small and compact. If you are willing to do a little bit of skinning, it is easy to find untracked powder.
The course will be led by an IFMGA Mountain Guide, allowing us the ability to access both glaciated and non-glaciated terrain.
