About Jim

I work full time, year round as an independent guide. Ninety percent of my work is on skis, the majority of which is on exploratory trips anywhere in the world. Provided an area is safe and has mountains and snow, it should be visited. All countries I have skied in have given unforgettable experiences and many have deserved numerous return visits.

Trips all have the same core ingredients, namely:

  • Great people to share the experience with
  • Beautiful mountains with memorable skiing
  • Cultural interest

During the northern hemisphere summer months I guide in the European Alps on a private basis. I also run occasional climbing expeditions to places such as East Africa (six trips), Jordan, Peru, Bolivia, Canada, New Zealand, Nepal and Tibet.

I have a ‘Habilitation de Tourisme’ which is a French status allowing me to organise and propose all-inclusive mountain holidays. I am insured to organise as well as guide and am fully bonded so your money is secure. All trips in the ski programme run.

Brought up in Ballater in the south eastern Cairngorms of Scotland, I had my first contact with mountaineering through my primary school, my parents and the Ballater Scouts. I thought it wonderful being in the outdoors in those days and have yet to find anywhere better to spend my time.

I have lived in France since 1994 and share my life with my wife Nathalie and our three children. When not in the mountains I am happy at home with them.
